If you are travelling to the UK for tourism, then you may be wondering whether Australians need a visa to the UK? Australia and the UK have an agreement in which Australian passport holders can enter and remain in the UK for up to 6 months without needing a visa. So if you are not intending to work and plan to travel for less than 6 months, YOU WON’T NEED A VISA TO THE UK.
However it is recommended that before you enter the UK you have the following documents on hand when going through customs:
- a return ticket (this proves to the customs officer that you do not intend to remain in the UK past your visa)
- a bank statement (This must be no more than 30 days old and show a balance of at least $1000 per month you intend to be in the UK, a credit card printout is fine. This basically proves that you have sufficient funds to support yourself whilst in the UK)
Although you can remain in the UK for up to 6 months, you cannot undertake any work whilst there. If you intend to work in the UK, then probably the easiest visa’s to apply for are the TIER 5 YOUTH MOBILITY VISA or the ANCESTRAL VISA.
If you wish to leave the UK, to possibly travel to other countries around Europe, that is fine, just make sure you have the return ticket and banks statement available when you re-enter the UK.
